Sails of Light

Sails of Light is a visual event illuminating Canada Place to tell Canada’s story. Watch as Canada Place’s iconic sails shine with extravagant colour, displays and animation. Viewable from the west side of Canada Place, prime viewing locations include Stanley Park, the Coal Harbour Seawall, the Vancouver Convention Centre West, the North Shore and waterways.

Current Show:

Canada Place, in partnership with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC), is lighting up its iconic sails in celebration of the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Sails of Light takes place nightly from dusk (5pm) to dawn (8am) from January 30 to March 31, 2010. The stunning show features VANOC’s “Look of the Games” blending colour, animation, imagery and texture. Canada Place and VANOC worked closely with renowned Canadian company Moment Factory, based in Quebec, to develop the exceptional lighting design and program.

“Using VANOC’s ‘Look of the Games’ as our muse, the show features changing colours, lights, and rhythms. The sails are such an integral and iconic part of western Canada’s cityscape that we wanted to incorporate them in a big way.”
    - Robyn McVicker, Director of Communications & Public Affairs, Canada Place Corporation

''Based on VANOC's “Look of the Games”, the color scheme, the flowing graphic lines, the Canadian textures, will become part of the skyline of Vancouver and act as one of the symbols of the 2010 Olympic Games. We have worked on projects all over the world, but I don't think that any other of our projects will of have been see by as many people.''
    - Sakchin Bessette, Moment Factory
